CAMPBELL, Ohio - Last year, 21 News reported on an announcement made by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on a new student wellness center coming to the Campbell Local School District. Now, we're getting a clearer time frame for when that center will open.

Superintendent Matthew Bowen tells 21 News construction has already begun for the 55,000-square-foot facility and the facility is expected to be completed and open for use by August of 2026.

Campbell Local Schools received a $10.5 million grant from Governor DeWine, as well as $2 million in a federal earmark to pay for the building.

The full cost of the project is expected to be about $14 million. The district has set aside another $1.5 million to pay for the rest of the cost.

The wellness center will feature many different services including a family service center designed to align with the Ohio Department of Education's "Whole Child Framework" approach, which emphasizes the importance of supporting a child's holistic development including social-emotional, physical and cognitive well-being alongside academic achievement.

Additionally, the facility will feature a Care Closet sponsored by United Way, healthcare services like pediatric primary care, mental health counseling, etc. workforce services and educational programming in the medical field and linkage to Akron Children's Hostpial.
