Warren to feds: Don't cut our community funds

WARREN, Ohio - Warren City Council is poised to consider a resolution Wednesday opposing proposed federal budget cuts that city leaders say would eliminate crucial funding sources for community development, housing and infrastructure.
The resolution, drafted by the city's Law Department, specifically targets the potential elimination of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and the Clean and Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Funds. These programs provide grants to state and local governments for a wide range of community and economic development activities.
According to the resolution, the City of Warren's Community Development Department heavily relies on CDBG and HOME funds to increase housing stock and improve neighborhoods within the city. The proposed cuts are described as major discretionary funding reductions in the federal budget.
The resolution urges elected officials, including Senator Jon Husted, Senator Bernie Moreno, and Representative David P. Joyce, to vote against any federal budget bill that would allow for the elimination of these programs.
The measure is declared an emergency, allowing for immediate effect upon passage. City officials stated the emergency declaration is necessary to ensure the council's and administration's recommendation to vote against these federal spending cuts can be shared with federal representatives "at the earliest time and without undue delay."
If passed, the Clerk of Council is authorized and directed to mail certified copies of the resolution to Senators Husted and Moreno, and Representative Joyce.
