NEVER BEFORE SEEN PHOTOS: A look back at the tornado of 1985 40 years later

MAHONING & SHENANGO VALLEYS - Saturday, May 31, marks the 40th anniversary of a tornado that rocked several Valley communities, including Newton Falls, Lordstown, Niles, and Hubbard in Trumbull County and Wheatland in Mercer County.
This F5 tornado claimed the lives of 12 people in Trumbull County and eight more in Mercer County. More than 500 others were injured, and property damage was estimated at $140 million.
This was the worst of 41 tornadoes that devastated communities from Southern Ontario to Western New York, eastern Ohio, and Western Pennsylvania. It was the only F5 tornado ever recorded in Pennsylvania.
Many of those tornadoes accompanied thunderstorms that formed in the warm sector ahead of an east-moving cold front.
21 News has collected several never-before-seen photos of the tornado's aftermath. We've included those photos below with captions stating where they were taken.
The latest episode of 21 News's podcast, The Radar, offers much more about the tornado and its aftermath.
