Grand jury to consider case of Girard youth softball coach accused of rape

GIRARD, Ohio - The case of a Girard youth softball coach facing multiple rape charges is now in the hands of a grand jury.
A grand jury will now have to decide whether or not there is enough evidence to indict Shane Genetta, who is charged with two counts of rape with one stemming from an alleged incident involving a child less than 13 years old and another stemming from an alleged force or threat of force.
In the meantime, Genetta's bond of $1 million has been continued.
Court records show Genetta's alleged crimes date back to 2017, but we're still working to learn what led to charges being filed several years later.
21 News first learned of this case after multiple parents contacted us telling us Genetta had been a softball coach with the Girard Youth Baseball Association, who has wiped all pictures of the team from their social media pages.
21 News reached out to the president of the Girard Youth Baseball Association, but we never heard back.
