COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio - In Hanoverton on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. community members were able to have a final walk through of United Local Schools.

The event brought former students, teachers, and families back into the hallways one last time.

Tables were arranged in the gymnasium of the current elementary school, offering old sports uniforms, trophies, yearbooks, and other unused items for sale. Groups of people visited their old classrooms and took home a piece of the past.

"The people here tonight represent many, many generations of people who have gone through United," school board member, Heather Milliken Mercer told 21 News. "So we're very proud of what we have and what we continue to do in the future for our kids."

The community can look forward to a new three-story school that will accommodate preschool through 12th-grade students. School leaders said the facility promises updated classrooms, modern technology, and more room for students grow.

"We have three makerspaces where kids can work hands on on projects. We have extended learning areas...the walls actually come up so [students] can extend and do collaborative projects." Superintendent Lance Hostetler said.

Board members told 21 News that the building is equipped to take students into the next technological age.

"This project's been a long time in the making, and to see it all come to fruition, I think, is what's really making everybody ecstatic and really excited about the completion." school board president, Denise Rhodes said.

A ribbon cutting for the school is scheduled for August 16 at 1:30 p.m.
