According to a news release, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife released the values for the wild turkey hunting season which concluded on June 1.

The numbers represent a total statewide harvest from April 19 to June 1, along with birds taken during the two day youth season from April 12 to April 13.

Over the course of the season across Ohio, 16,014 birds were checked by hunters, along with 1,740 birds during the youth season.

The top 11 counties for wild turkeys taken during the season were as follows:

  • Ashtabula (516)
  • Monroe (462)
  • Belmont (459)
  • Guernsey (419)
  • Muskingum (406)
  • Trumbull (403)
  • Tuscarawas (401)
  • Carroll (396)
  • Meigs (376)
  • Columbiana (372)
  • Coshocton (372)

Adult male turkeys made up 81% of the final count with 12,904 birds.

In addition, 2,924 juvenile turkeys were checked, making up 18%. Turkey hunters also checked 186 bearded female turkeys (hens) during the season.

According to the release, shotguns were the implement of choice during the season, accounting for 98% of the total harvest, equating to 15,751 birds.

Archery equipment was used for the remaining 263 birds.

During the 2024 season, according to the release, a total of 15,535 birds were checked.
