Vienna Township Trustees pass resolution to cancel two fire and EMS levies

VIENNA TWP., Ohio - During its Monday meeting, the Vienna Township Trustees passed a resolution that would cancel two levies which will be replaced by the 3.5-mill levy that was passed on May 6, 2025.
According to Assistant Fiscal Officer Jacob Conde, the resolution will cancel the collection of funds for two of the three existing levies the township has in place for EMS and fire services.
The resolution would tell the township to stop collecting on the replaced levies beginning in 2026, when the passed 3.5-mill levy would start to be collected.
Voters approved the five-year, 3.5-mill levy during the May 6 election, with 418 people voting yes and 405 voting no - a margin of 13 votes.
The levy will generate an estimated $507,186.96 annually and cover the cost to employ part-time staff for EMS, estimated at $366,000 per year. It will also support maintenance and other operational needs.
The new cost to homeowners will be $127 per year on a $100,000 home.
The two levies cancelled by the resolution cost, together, $50.32 per year to homeowners and generated $219,909.48.
