CORTLAND, Ohio - A black bear was spotted in Cortland Tuesday evening.

A neighbor living along McCleary Jacoby Road spotted the animal in their backyard and caught it on video before it went back into the woods behind their property.

They shared the video with 21 News to let others know to watch out for their pets and children.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Trumbull County had the second most confirmed black bear sightings between 1993 and 2022 with a total of 138.

If you encounter a black bear, ODNR says to remain calm and don't run. You can also raise your hands to appear larger and clap or shout to scare the bear away.
