Ohio BMV texting scam on the rise

Ohio - The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) has received multiple reports of a potential scam involving scammers claiming to be the BMV and attempting to convince Ohioans to pay for fake traffic tickets.
Ohio residents claim to have received a text from the BMV that they have an outstanding traffic ticket that must be paid immediately or else their license would be suspended.
This is known as a phishing scam that attempts to persuade or scare potential victims into quickly sending money or sensitive information to the scammer.
"Ohio BMV will never send you a text demanding payment or your personal information," says Ohio BMV Registrar Charlie Norman.
If you receive a potential scam text you can report it on the Federal Trade Commission's website.
If you think you've been the victim of a scam the BMV recommends contacting your local law enforcement.
