BOARDMAN, Ohio - A Mahoning Valley Sparkle Market will be closing its doors after more than 70 years of serving customers.

Tony Modarelli, the Sparkle Market store owner, told 21 News that the store will have its final day on June 14, 2025. The store has been in business for 73 years.

The store is located on South Avenue in Boardman near Youngstown's south side.

Modarelli also told 21 News that the store is holding a 40% off sale, excluding beer and wine sales, through its final day.

According to a news release from May of 2025, the decision to close the store came as a result of ongoing financial challenges, including rising costs and declining sales that made continuing operations unsustainable.

"If you have a favorite neighborhood grocery store, support them as much as you can. You won't know how much you'll miss it once it's gone," said Modarelli.
