BAZETTA TWP., Ohio - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has issued a bacteria contamination advisory for the water in several regional beaches across several lakes including one in Trumbull County.

An advisory was sent shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday for Mosquito Creek Lake in Bazetta Township reporting high bacteria levels in the lake's water.

This joins several other advisories issued by ODNR shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday reporting high bacteria levels in lakes across Portage and Ashtabula County.

The advisories for some of these beaches including West Branch Camp and West Branch Main in Portage County and Conneaut Sandbar Beach and Conneaut Township Park have been lifted around 8:30 a.m. 11 a.m. respectively.

An advisory is still in effect for Lakeshore Park on Lake Erie in Ashtabula County as of this writing.

A representative for ODNR tells 21 News the contamination is believed to have stemmed from wildlife waste.

The Ohio Department of Health's Beachguard website lists all of these as a "yellow flag" advisory, which signifies when the level of bad bacteria in the water has reached unsafe levels and could make you sick.

Under a yellow flag advisory, children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are advised not to swim.

21 News will update this story when the bacteria advisory is lifted.
