High speed chase ends as suspect jumps Youngstown interstate median

YOUNGSTOWN - A high speed pursuit by Youngstown police came to an end as the suspect's vehicle exited the interstate, jumped the median, and lost control of their tire.
Saturday night around 9 p.m. two YPD officers pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Allen Crockett after they observed the vehicle coming to a stop past the crosswalk at the intersection of McGuffey Road and Wick Avenue.
Alongside Crockett two other individuals in the front and back seat.
According to the report, Crockett appeared very nervous, with the officer speaking to him noticing his hands shaking and him avoiding eyecontact.
Crockett was unable to provide his license or proof of insurance for the vehicle.
Due to his nervous behaviour the officer asked Crockett to step out of the vehicle so they could speak and in response Crockett put the car in drive and fled.
The initial two officers were joined by an additional unit and pursued the vehicle as it travled west down the Madison Expressway going west weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed.
The chase continued as Crockett got on Interstate 680 going north before exiting and reentering southbound.
Crockett exited the interstate again on Market Street, but failed to make the exit's turn, jumping the median.
The front driver side tire was disabled forcing the vehicle to come to a stop.
As the car slowed, Crockett tossed a handgun out of the driver's side window which was quickly recovered.
Crockett and the two passengers were ordered out of the car and handcuffed.
A search revealed that due to prior convictions Crockett was not qualified to own a handgun and was arrested for failure to comply, tampering with evidence, weapons under disability and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
The two passengers were uninjured and let go free.
