YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A probable cause hearing for a serious youthful offender complaint involving a teenager charged with murder was held in Mahoning County Juvenile Court Wednesday.

The hearing began with the State presenting the details of the case against 14-year-old Willie Wilks.

Wilks is accused in the March 23 killing of Keondre Lewis on Rhoda Avenue in Youngstown. A police report said Lewis was found laying in the dining room of a home with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

According to the judgement entry, an EMT was called as a witness and testified that she found the victim dead at the scene.

A second witness, a 16-year-old family member of the suspect, testified about the people inside the home at the time of the shooting. The witness said his brother, Lewis and Wilks were at the home when he heard a loud bang and ran down the stairs.

The witness reported seeing Lewis injured and bleeding. He also testified that he did not see Wilks with a gun that day but was aware that he had one. The family member went on to say he saw Wilks run out of the front door afterward.

During cross examination, the second witness said he did not see the incident and only heard a noise. He also stated that he loved Wilks and isn't afraid of him while noting that Wilks and the victim were not fighting and playing well together. During re-direct examination, the witness testified that Wilks had a Glock weapon.

The State's next witness was Youngstown Police Department Officer Shakir Perkins who detailed photos taken at the scene. Included in the photos were a shell casing, a handgun found at Wilks' home and a second gun found by officers. He said two different types of casings were found and he could not confirm from the casing if the incident was intentional or accidental.

YPD Detective Sergeant Phillip Skowron also testified that the suspect's DNA was not taken. He said Wilks kept repeating "my brother, my brother," during his interview and Det. Sgt. Skowron noted that Wilks' brother had been shot and killed just a week before the incident. He testified that the victim had one gunshot behind his left ear.

The defense did not present any witnesses or exhibits during the hearing.

According to the judgement entry, the court found probable cause in the case and the matter has been filed as a Mandatory Serious Youth Offender and a trial will be set.
