LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Another black bear was spotted in Trumbull County Thursday evening.

The bear was caught on video behind a 21 News viewer's home on Malibu Drive.

The viewer estimated the animal to be around 300 pounds.

This sighting is the latest in a string of sightings across Trumbull County.

21 News reported a sighting in Cortland on June 3 and another in Howland the next day.

Another bear was spotted in Lordstown on June 12.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) said the recent trend of black bear sightings is unusual for Trumbull County. ODNR Wildlife Research Technician Joe Ferrara told 21 News there is an estimated 50-100 black bears in the state.

According to ODNR, Trumbull County had the second most confirmed black bear sightings between 1993 and 2022 with a total of 138.

If you encounter a black bear, ODNR says to remain calm and don't run. You can also raise your hands to appear larger and clap or shout to scare the bear away.
