COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced funding for several transportation improvement projects across multiple counties in the Mahoning Valley.

The funding comes from $8.9 million from ODOT's Transportation Improvement District Program supporting 26 projects across 19 counties to provide access to developable land, create easier access to businesses and alleviate traffic congestion in commercial areas.

Locally, Trumbull County received funding for two projects including $500,000 for a project to construct a left turn lane and traffic signal at the intersection of Mines Road and State Route 46 in Howland Township.

According to ODOT, these improvements are needed for large employers who are continually expanding and have invested over $26 million in the area.

This project is expected to create 205 new jobs and retail 360 current jobs.

Another Trumbull County project receiving funding is $121,250 for a project calling for improvements to the intersection of Burton Street and Deforest Road in Howland Township including a cul-de-sac.

According to ODOT, these improvements are required for existing businesses to continue freight logistic operations as well as a new company's investment of $680 million.

Meanwhile in Columbiana County, St. Clair Township received $200,000 for a road widening project at the intersection of County Road 430 and Calcutta Smith Ferry Road.

According to ODOT, this throughfare for trucks and employees to an ethane plant as also seen several existing businesses expand.
