STONEBORO, Pa. - The Red Cross has been called to assist a resident of a Mercer County home destroyed by a fire early Thursday.

Several fire departments were called to Franklin Street in Stoneboro just after 3 a.m. 

The first firefighter on the scene reported seeing flames had spread throughout a two-story home just south of East Forest Street.

The person living at the home escaped unharmed with a pet.

The Red Cross will assist the occupant with a place to live and other essential needs.

Franklin Street is closed in the area until the fire apparatus is cleared from the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
