Sheriff's Office investigating after attempted vandalization of pride flag in Canfield

CANFIELD, Ohio - Deputies with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office are investigating after reports of a pride flag being vandalized in Canfield.
According to a report, sheriff's deputies were called to a home on the 7000 Block of Southberry Hill Monday, June 23 in Canfield for a report of property damage.
The homeowner told deputies that his pride flag had been tampered with. Deputies say the flag had been moved and there were five areas slightly damaged with burn marks.
Deputies also say there were two paper towel sheets with possible burn marks on the street near the victim's house.
According to the report, the vandalism would have happened sometime after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, June 22. The homeowner told deputies earlier that Sunday, an SUV with four young men inside drove by with the men yelling a homophobic slur out the window.
Deputies say American flags were clearly visible in other yards in the area, but only the pride flag appears to have been tampered with.
According to the report, a neighbor does have a security system with a view of the victim's home, but that neighbor denied deputies access to his security system.
At this time, no suspects have been named and no charges have been filed in connection with this incident.
