CANFIELD The Canfield Township Board of Trustees met on Monday for a special meeting to discuss the potential of a water line extension within the township.

According to Canfield Township Administrator Keith Rogers, the board is looking for Canfield residents who are interested in "tying in" to a potential water line extension and signing a non-binding contract.

The proposed extension would extend the current water line, located at Gibson Road and Turner Road, to Palmyra Road and Route 224.

The aim of the project would be to eventually extend the water line and reach the outskirts of the township.

Canfield Township has a little over $1 million for the project to extend the line from South Turner Road to Herbert Road, but more funding would be needed to complete the project.

During the meeting, it was discussed that the township is currently looking to apply for funding in Washington, D.C. under "Congressionally Directed Spending" in the amount of $2 million.

Non-binding contracts were distributed during the meeting to interested residents.

By having residents sign non-binding contracts, Rogers says it would help the board show any federal, state or local grant issuers that there are potential customers for the proposed project.

For residents interested in tying in to the main water line, they would be looking at a potential estimate of $3,300 to connect.

Additional fees would be incurred for a pressure reduction valve for individual homes, potentially in the amount of about $1,000. A backflow preventor would be about $500.

"If you want water, let me know, and I'll get you on the list," said Rogers.

Anyone interested in hearing more about how to tie in to the potential water line extension project can contact Rogers at the Canfield Township office at 330-533-4239 at extension two.

Forms are available via email and can be requested from Rogers.

At this time, there is no word on when the project would begin.
