PennDOT warns of traffic pattern changes on I-80 in Mercer County

Mercer County, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting the public of a new traffic pattern on Interstate 80 between the Shenango River Bridge and the Route 318 Bridge in Mercer County.
According to the release, westbound traffic is moved onto the shoulder of the highway while one lane of eastbound traffic is in the neighboring lane with barriers separating the two.
Eastbound traffic exiting at the Interstate 376 interchange will need to use the lane nearest to the work zone.
PennDOT expects the current traffic pattern to stay in place for the next several months.
The work is part of the Interstate 80 Reconstruction Project that includes upgrades to the roadway from the Ohio state line to mile marker 5. Five bridge repairs and the replacement and widening of bridges over Route 318 in Shenango Township is also included.
Construction began in April 2025 and will be completed in phases through 2027.
If you are traveling through the area, slow down in work zones and look out for safety workers.
