BOARDMAN Funeral arrangements have been announced for Joseph John Maxin, one of six people who died Sunday in a plane crash in Howland Township.

Maxin, 63, was piloting the Cessna 441 aircraft that crashed in a residential area about seven minutes after takeoff from the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport.  The co-pilot, 55-year-old Timothy Blake, died, along with four passengers identified as 68-year-old Veronica Weller, 67-year-old James Weller II, 36-year-old John Weller, and 34-year-old Maria Weller.

Calling hours for Joe Maxin will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield. A procession to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport for a remembrance and final prayer will follow.

Born Jan. 19, 1962, Maxin graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1980, the University of Dayton in 1984, and the University of Toledo College of Law in 1988.

He began his legal career at the Youngstown City Prosecutor's Office and later served as a prosecutor for Mahoning County. He also practiced law alongside his father at the Maxin and Maxin Law Firm. Maxin spent time with the Drug Task Force, Mahoning County Dive Team, Drug Court, and Veterans Court.

Maxin was a certified flight instructor, a captain for Eaton Corporation, and the director of compliance for the Western Reserve Port Authority. He helped promote aviation education and safety at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, mentoring many aspiring pilots. He supported the Youngstown State Aviation Program.

Maxin is survived by his three children, Nicholas John, Alexander Joseph and Abigail Lucille; his granddaughter, Evelyn Lucille; their mother, Mary Heino-Maxin (Michael Furrie); his sisters, Mary Lou Maxin of Sacramento, California, and Patricia Maxin of Houston, Texas; his brother, Michael (Marianne) Maxin of Seattle, Washington; and his companion, Diane Kerchofer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucille Maxin, and his brother-in-law, Mike Lu.
