LISBON  A local family's new concession business suffered a setback Thursday after a fire erupted in their trailer, just as they were preparing for the Lisbon Fireworks Celebration. Ryan Higgins, co-owner of Higgins Concessions, sustained burns in the blaze, according to a post on Lisbon Fireworks’ Facebook Page.

Higgins was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he was admitted and later released on Friday. He will require further medical treatment for burns of his legs and arms, according to the post. His wife and their infant were not in the trailer at the time of the fire.

"Many thanks to Lisbon's finest -- our firefighters and police -- for their quick response to a flashfire at a food truck at the fairgrounds," Lisbon Mayor Pete Wilson posted on social media. "Our first responders are the best. And a big thanks to North Star ambulance."

The incident occurred as the trailer was being set up for what was intended to be their new business's first major event.

In response, the Lisbon Fireworks Committee has launched a collection to assist the family. Donations can be sent to Lisbon Fireworks, P.O. Box 8, Lisbon, OH 44432. Donors are asked to note "Higgins Family" on their checks.
