Judge denies motion for early release of Niles mayor convicted of corruption

NILES A Trumbull County judge has denied a motion asking that former Niles mayor Ralph Infante be released from prison early.
According to court records, Judge Patricia Cosgrove denied the motion for judicial release, filed by Infante back in February of 2025.
In addition, court records show Judge Cosgrove granted a motion from the state allowing for Infante's pension funds to pay for the cost of his prosecution and restitution to the city.
These payments will total $52,157.32 and will not exceed $3,000 per month.
Infante is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence on 22 charges stemming from a pattern of corrupt activity during his administration.
This activity includes paying a woman for two generators and a power washer without City Council's approval, bribery and purchasing $75,000 worth of tickets to a football game and getting reimbursed, but reporting the tickets as gifts.
