WARREN  Warren’s Healthy Hearts and Paws Project will host a fundraiser this Saturday, July 12, to support operations as the animal shelter manages a high intake of dogs.

The event, titled "Every Pet Deserves a Tomorrow," will take place at the shelter, located at 909 Martin Luther King Blvd SW, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature a bake sale, vendors, and a basket raffle.

The shelter is currently operating near capacity, according to Jason Cooke, president of The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project. Recent intake numbers have placed a strain on resources.

Cooke recently noted in a social media post that the shelter has taken in 47 dogs since July 1. This intake contributes to the shelter’s current population of approximately 100 dogs.

In addition to the fundraiser, the event will include a volunteer orientation and adoption opportunities for dogs and cats. The shelter is seeking monetary donations and supplies to assist with ongoing veterinary bills and general care.

The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project is also expanding its facilities. Construction is underway on a third building designed to house 33 additional dogs. Cooke previously stated that the new building is expected to open within the next two months, pending funding.

The public can attend the event on Saturday to contribute to the shelter’s efforts.
