CHAMPION TWP., Ohio - Work is expected to begin next month on a new emergency room facility in Champion Township.

A source told 21 News ground is expected to be broken sometime in August on the new emergency medical facility.

Mercy Health plans to build the 30-thousand square foot ER with 25 beds and a helipad for medical helicopters.

The company said this is another way to expand emergency care in Trumbull County, especially in the wake of the closures of Insight Hospitals.

The new location will be near Kent State Trumbull.

Construction is expected to finish up in December 2026.
