Walker Mill Bridge reopens after months-long closure

BOARDMAN A representative for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) tells 21 News that crews have wrapped up work on the Walker Mill Bridge in Boardman.
ODOT told 21 News the bridge was expected to reopen by the end of the day Friday. A 21 News viewer captured the above image showing the bridge to be fully open once again.
There is still work being done on Walker Mill Road east of I-680, meaning access is still limted on certain sections of the roadway. ODOT says this is part of a separate project from the Mahoning County Engineer's Office.
The bridge has been closed since March of 2025 after a garbage truck's hydraulic arm struck the overpass damaging the steel underneath the bridge's deck.
The driver of the garbage truck, Daniel Rios, was cited for operating a wide load without a permit. He's set to enter a plea July 24.
