WARREN, Ohio - Forty-year-old Richard Sanek, the owner of Leonidas, was arrested at his home and booked into the Trumbull County jail. He is charged with animal cruelty (F5). At the time of his arrest, two dogs were found and have been taken to a nearby shelter.
It is unknown at this time when Sanek will appear in court.
Cooke told 21 News that Sanek originally brought Leonidas to the shelter, claiming that he found the dog. However, according to Cooke, Sanek later admitted to Cooke to being the owner.
Cooke later told 21 News on Monday that at the time that Leonidas was pronounced dead, he was 30 pounds underweight.
