YOUNGSTOWN A former Canfield daycare worker has been charged after an employee reported her for spanking a child, capturing the alleged incident on video.

According to court records, Delaynie Meade of Leetonia is charged with one count of disorderly conduct stemming from the incident that allegedly happened in late June.

Meade's coworker Sarah Ewing captured the alleged incident on video. Ewing says she'd only worked at the daycare for two weeks, but quit after seeing this and reporting it.

"When the kids wouldn't sit still, she would yank them and rip them around or spank their butt. And she actually was moving her hand to protect herself, and she just moved her hand and she just sat there and cried," Ewing said.

Meade was promptly fired following the alleged incident.

This is not Meade's first run-in with the law. Columbiana County Municipal Court records show that she was originally accused of endangering children in February of 2024.

She was ultimately convicted of a lesser charge of disorderly conduct in that case and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. It is unclear what led up to the Columbiana County case.
