Probation ordered in Canfield prostitution case

YOUNGSTOWN A woman indicted on prostitution-related charges stemming from a raid at a Canfield spa has been sentenced to probation.
Shanshan Zhang, 36, of Buford, Georgia, received a 12-month community control (probation) sentence on Thursday, July 10, from Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.
Zhang pleaded guilty to one count of promoting prostitution, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony. A misdemeanor charge of soliciting was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
The charges followed a Jan. 21 raid by Canfield Police and the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force at Harmony Foot Spa in Canfield. Authorities at the time alleged Zhang offered an undercover agent sex for money.
As part of her probation, Zhang must obey all rules of the Adult Parole Authority, including not violating any laws, possessing drugs or firearms, or causing harm to others or property. She is also prohibited from leaving Ohio or Georgia without court permission.
The court allowed Zhang to return to her residence in Buford, Georgia. She can apply to transfer her probation supervision to an agency in Georgia. Zhang was also ordered to undergo an assessment with the Community Corrections Association in Youngstown.
