New program to help Valley seniors stay in their home

New day centers are opening in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, offering a program designed to help older adults remain in their homes.
The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, known as PACE, provides medical and support services for people who are 55 and older who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. The services are provided at no cost to eligible participants.
The facilities, located at 2154 Elm Road NE, Warren, and 2701 Market Street, Youngstown, are among three centers Buckeye PACE plans to open in Northeast Ohio.
The PACE program coordinates a team of health care professionals and support staff to provide care. Participants can access in-center and at-home services, including medical care, prescription assistance, transportation, social activities, and nursing care.
Buckeye PACE officials stated the program aims to address the needs of older Ohioans, including those in rural areas seeking at-home care and individuals experiencing social isolation.
Elected officials are scheduled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Youngstown center at 11 a.m. July 21, and at the Warren Center at 11 a.m. July 22. Jamie Carmichael, Chief Program Officer at the Ohio Department of Aging, is slated to give a keynote speech.
Following the ceremony, Buckeye PACE plans to offer tours of the new center.
