HERMITAGE Runners and walkers alike came together to compete in the "Pierogi Run" 5K at Linden Pointe in Hermitage on Saturday.

It was a big turnout for the race's fifth year as it attracted more than 160 participants, doubling the number of competitors from last year.

Laura Fette, the director of the "Pierogi Run" said this race brings the community and local businesses together to create a unique experience for participants.

"Our race is really personalized," said Fette, "So we try to incorporate the community in our race."

Fette mentioned businesses like Perfect Pair and Uncloud Coffee helped shape the event along with homemade pierogies that came from St. John's church.

Those who finished the race got to take home some of the handmade pierogi's, along with pierogi shaped medals and a t-shirt.

Funds from the event will benefit the youth camp at St. John's Orthodox Church in Hermitage.
