Wildlife Officer charges Salineville deer hunter in Columbiana County

LISBON A Salineville man is facing charges of interfering with a wildlife officer and exceeding the white-tailed deer bag limit, according to records from Columbiana County Municipal Court.
David W. Lotze, 54, of Haiti Road, was charged following incidents reported in December.
According to an affidavit filed by Wildlife Officer Jesse Janosik of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, Lotze was spotted on December 7 as he exited a property off Route 30." Janosik stated that Lotze initially denied hunting and claimed he did not have a firearm. However, Lotze later admitted to placing a gun in the woods before leaving the property. The affidavit also notes that Lotze was under the impression a prior conviction resulted in a weapons disability.
Janosik's affidavit also alleges that Lotze had checked in five white-tailed deer in Columbiana County through the Ohio Wildlife License System, which is two over the bag limit of three deer per license year. The alleged overbagging occurred on or about Dec. 2, on Applegate Road in Wayne Township.
Lotze is charged with interfering with a wildlife officer, a first-degree misdemeanor, and exceeding the white-tailed deer bag limit, a third-degree misdemeanor. He is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 7, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in Columbiana County Municipal Court.
