Pennsylvania reminds veterans about financial assistance available to help in emergencies

Pennsylvania - The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is looking to remind veterans and their families about a program that provide a little help in tough times.
The Veterans Temporary Assistance (VTA) program grants non-dishonorably discharged veterans with up to $1,600 each year to cover emergency expenses.
"The Veterans Temporary Assistance program exists to make sure no veteran or family member has to face hardship alone. If you've served and now need support, we urge you to reach out—we're here to help. It is the least we can do to thank you for your service to this country," says Major General John Pippy, head of the Pennsylvania DMVA.
Through this program the DMVA has granted just under $7.5 million to more than 6,800 veterans, active duty service members and their families.
The program requires funds go toward the "neccesities of living" and the need for assitance to stem from "unforseen circumstances" and "not because of misconduct by the applicant."
Applicants for assistance must also show that other funds or resources are not available to address their immediate need.
A full list of the applicant requirements can be found on the VTA website.
To apply for assitance veterans, service members and their families should contact their local County Director of Veteran Affairs.
