VIDEO: Drone helps Hubbard police bring standoff to an end
HUBBARD, Ohio - One person is under arrest after several law enforcement agencies converged on a neighborhood in Hubbard early Tuesday when a woman reported that someone was trying to kill her.
Police, Sheriff's Deputies, and State Troopers were called to a home on Saul Drive before around 4:30 a.m. after a woman called Trumbull Dispatch to report that she had locked herself in a bathroom after allegedly being threatened by her boyfriend.
According to the police report, on top of threatening his girlfriend the man threatened to harm himself and provoke laaw enforcements to harm him.
Officers attempted to make contact at the house, but the door went unanswered.
The woman escaped the house shortly after.
21 News has learned that shortly before 7 a.m., authorities were negotiating with the man who was still in the home.
The Mahoning Valley Crisis Response team was called to deal with the situation due to its "volatile nature."
Oncce they arrived they deployed a drone into the house to confirm the man's location and condition without putting officers at unnecessary risk.
Within a half hour after repeated attempts at negotiation, Hubbard City Police forcefully extracted the man with non-lethal force with him suffering self-inflicted injuries.
The suspect was transferred to a local hospital for treatment as charges are currently pending.
“This incident could have ended in tragedy, but thanks to the professionalism, patience and training of the officers, it was resolved safely," says Hubbard Police Chief Robert D. Thompson.
