Air Quality Advisory issued for Youngstown-Warren area

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown-Warren area is under an Air Quality Advisory for Wednesday, July 23, with ozone levels expected to be "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups."
A building ridge of high pressure will limit atmospheric mixing, while sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 80s will contribute to ozone development. Additionally, light southerly winds will recirculate wildfire smoke into the Mahoning Valley, increasing both particle levels and ozone precursors.
Individuals with lung conditions like asthma, children and teenagers, older adults, and those who are routinely active outdoors for extended periods are advised to reduce their exposure by choosing less strenuous activities or shortening their time outdoors. Ozone levels are often lower in the morning, offering a potential window for outdoor activity.
Looking ahead, increasing southwesterly winds on Thursday are expected to improve dispersion and bring cleaner air to the region, leading to mid-Moderate air quality for ozone and low-Moderate for fine particulate matter.
From Friday through Sunday, light to moderate west-southwesterly winds will continue to clear smoke from the Ohio Valley. Daily showers and thunderstorms are also expected to enhance atmospheric mixing and reduce ozone formation. Air quality is forecast to be low-Moderate on Friday, improving to high-Good for Saturday and Sunday.
