Trumbull County officials and a Valley restaurant gathered on Thursday to celebrate not only the success of the 179th Trumbull County Fair, but also to thank the workers who made it possible.

The event took place at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds, located at 899 Everett Hull Road in Cortland.

Trumbull County Commissioner Denny Malloy, Trumbull County Sheriff Mike Wilson and Cockeye Barbecue met to provide the meal for those who helped make the county fair possible.

Commissioner Malloy spoke to 21 News, wishing to share his thanks with those who participated.

"We only see it for less than a week, but the work they put into it is a year's worth of work. There's more than one hundred people that make it possible, and we just wanted to say thank you for all of your hard work. It's much appreciated, and we're proud of what we have and it's only going to get better in the future," said Commissioner Malloy.

Additionally, some facts were shared on the success of the fair numbers, including:

  • Livestock sale auctions brought in $589,000. Thanks were extended to the livestock sale committee.
  • About 480 4-H participants.
  • Fair attendance was 44,652 people.

Many were thanked for being part of the event, including the sponsors, the flower bed and barrel art contest participants and the Trumbull County commissioners.

Commissioner Malloy also mentioned that he wants to continue to make the county fair bigger and better.

"The fair getting bigger and better every year is just the start. We have big goals for the fair, with the fifteen members of the fair board and the fair board president and our board of county commissioners, we're going to do everything we can to grow this fair. We're going to do everything we can to grow the entertainment to make this place the jewel of Trumbull County," said Commissioner Malloy.

Commissioner Malloy said that there are big plans for the future, and he looks forward to next year's fair.
