It's a growing industry in Ohio....Literally!
We're talking about the market for Cannabis. And now, nearby Kent State University is offering a new program that could help people learn more about the marijuana industry, from growing it, to marketing and selling it.

If you know someone going to Kent state this fall you usually ask them what they are majoring in? Well, there's a chance it could be "weed."
OK, it's not a major, but Kent is now offering five different cannabis certificates.

People can now take online classes offered by Green Flower through Kent State.

Green Flower is a California-based firm which partners with 60 colleges and universities across the U-S to offer the course work for people who want to learn and to help develop the cannabis workforce for states that are allowing it.

"We look at every industry in Ohio and try to make sure we are filling the need of what the workforce if looking for so as the health care industry needs more nurses we make sure our nurses are prepared our teachers are prepared" said Eric Mansfield from Kent State.

Kent has about 250 people taking the courses so far.

"Many of the students taking these are non traditional students. They are people already working in industries who might want to make a job change or they just want to improve their job skills in what is certainly a rising industry across the state," added Mansfield.

According to Green Flower, all the classes are online and take about six months to complete a whole program.

"We have these 5 different programs you can choose from: cannabis business, cannabis cultivation, cannabis product development, cannabiss compliance and medical cannabis," said Green Flower CEO, Max Simon.

Many will use these programs to get into the cannabis industry as an employee but some start their own cannabis business.

"But we also have a lot of people who are entrepreneurs or service providers coming from other sectors who are expanding their services into cannabis whether that be in finance or marketing or legal services or even medical services," said Simon.

If you are interested in enrolling, you must be at least 18 years old.
Classes start this September and cost around $3,000.

Both Kent and Green Flower believe demand for these certificates will grow as the cannabis business becomes less stigmatized in Ohio.
