LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Speculation over a possible announcement at Foxconn's Lordstown plant has heated from a simmer to a boil as the week has progressed and we now know some information about how and when that announcement will come.

A spokesperson for Foxconn tells 21 News there will be an announcement regarding the Lordstown facility within the next day, meaning either Thursday or Friday, and that it will be made on U.S. time, not Taiwan. That means the news will not break in the middle of the night, as many Foxconn announcements are, since Hon Hai, Foxconn's international name, is twelve hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone .

Another announcement from Hon Hai early Wednesday stirred additional speculation, as it involves a partnership between Foxconn and TECO Electric & Machinery, a company that makes engines, including for EVs, but is expanding into the realm of AI infrastructure. However, that announcement is not directly tied to Lordstown and a second announcement is still pending.

The spokesperson for Foxconn said the announcement will not feature a total number of jobs initially, but that it will involve a partnership with another company and that it will bring a product into the Lordstown facility. While not speculating on the scope of the announcement, the spokesperson acknowledged that it will be "big."

Foxconn has been expanding its global footprint and has made several moves, including partnerships with chip maker Nvidia, TECO, and major automakers, that are widely believed to be a move towards seeking to dominate the AI market in the United States.

What we don't know:

It's still a mystery as to exactly who Foxconn may be partnering with for the Lordstown plant or what they may make, especially considering the cautious approach the company has taken with its Lordstown plant.

While some products have been announced since Foxconn first purchased the plant from Lordstown Motors in 2022. At that time, Lordstown Motors had been planning to manufacture the Endurance electric pickup truck, although shakeups in that company and the market have left that project dormant.

Since then, Foxconn has laid relatively low in Lordstown, aside from the announcement of the Monarch electric tractor in 2023.

The company has been quiet, though, about future plans or even allowing any media into the facility at all, raising questions about what kind of work was happening inside and whether any major production would ever take place.

The increased speculation this week appears to be set to change all of that, though, with sources saying we can likely expect "lots and lots of jobs."
