POLAND TWP., Ohio - Poland Township residents will start seeing Armstrong crews installing fiber optic cables again.

The trustees tried to pull the company's permit to stop tall utility towers from popping up in front of yards and excavation in the township in September. Armstrong then filed an appeal with the Ohio Court of Appeals courts and won. 

“We’re not disappointed,” Eric Ungaro, a Poland Township Trustee said. “As the Board of Trustees we went to bat for our citizens and we’ve always had a good relationship with Armstrong so it’s not anything hostile.”

Even though Armstrong can move forward with the work that many residents say they don't like the look of, the trustees filed a resolution in June requiring future companies to get a permit. 

“They’re going to have to follow our regulations and those would be flush-mounted,” Ungaro said about any towers future companies want to install. 

Because Armstrong started their work before that resolution was passed, they get to finish their multi-million dollar network upgrade.

Ungaro said the trustees will not continue in the fight to change the way Armstrong is installing their current network.

A representative from Armstrong told 21 News construction will start up again in the next few weeks and will be finished in a few months.

“Armstrong is pleased that after a unanimous ruling of the Ohio Court of Appeals, Poland Township has reinstated our permit to finish upgrading residents with the latest technology. Construction will begin in earnest in the next couple of weeks and completed in just a few months. Armstrong is grateful to the many township residents who have been loyal customers and supporters given our service to the Township for more than 40 years,” Keith A. Hall, Armstrong's Vice President of Regulatory Policy said in a statement. 

The company did not respond to our follow up question of if any residents can opt out.
