PennDOT 2025 grant applications, sustaining jobs & maintaining safety on PA rail-lines

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Grant applications for the Rail Transportation Assistance Program (RTAP) and the Rail Freight Assistance Program (RFAP) opened today, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
The Shapiro Administration announced on Monday that $41 million in grant funding will be awarded to PennDOT to "support rail freight infrastructure and safety".
In 2024, PennDOT awarded $55 million for 30 rail freight projects, sustaining over 300 jobs across Pennsylvania, the department said in a Monday statement.
RTAP and RFAP funding aids business growth and safety, including rail freight network improvements, PennDOT stated.
"Pennsylvania's rail freight network keeps goods moving and supports the economy, making it a critical piece of our transportation infrastructure," PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said in the statement. "These investments are another example of the Shapiro Administration's commitment to bolstering the business community and enhancing rail-line safety."
Eligible organizations interested in RTAP or RFAP grant funding can apply on the programs' website through PennDOT.
The grant programs will be accepting applications until 4:00p.m. August 29.
