WARREN A judge issued an arrest warrant for a Warren man in March of 2025 for alleged charges of animal cruelty and other charges.

According to the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, Benjamin Talanca, 40, of Warren was arrested on August 3 as a result of the execution of an arrest warrant.

The arrest warrant was issued after Talanca, pictured above, failed to appear in court for animal cruelty and other charges.

According to recent booking details from Monday, Talanca is charged with one count of cruelty to animals, two counts of assault and one count of burglary.

The animal cruelty charge stems from an incident in December 2024.

The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project was holding onto Talanca's dog around that time after he had gotten into trouble with the police.

Jason Cooke of the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project told police that Talanca came to the shelter to demand his dog back.

Cooke stated that the shelter did not have the legal grounds to keep the dog and was compelled to release it to Talanca.

Volunteers of the shelter alleged that Talanca then became agitated.

"He grabbed the dog by the collar, twisted it and berated the dog, calling it a bad service dog," Cooke told 21 News.

During the altercation, Cooke wrestled Talanca to the ground to protect the dog.

Talanca was later arrested and booked into the Trumbull County Jail on an animal cruelty charge.

On Monday, Talanca was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty.

Talanca is set to appear in court on August 7 at 1:30 p.m.
