Insurance company files lawsuit against Realty Building owners, gas company

YOUNGSTOWN Another lawsuit has been filed in connection with the deadly explosion at the Realty Building in downtown Youngstown in May of 2024.
The latest lawsuit was filed by Travelers Indemnity Company and Travco Insurance Company of Hartford Connecticut in connection with an explosion caused by a worker cutting a live gas line while working on a construction project May 28, 2024.
Like the other Realty Building lawsuits before it, the suit names building owners Yo Properties 47, LLC and LY Property Management, LLC, as well as Enbridge Gas and Greenheart Companies, LLC as the defendants.
According to the suit, Travelers had paid for $463,650.15 worth of damage to properties owned by its clients including Youngstown Stambaugh Hotel, LLC and Youngstown Senior Assistant Law Director Jason Small.
This lawsuit, like the others before it, accuses the defendants of neglect, alleging that the owners failed to ensure Greenheart, who had a crew working in the basement vault area under the sidewalk near the building, was complying with all rules, regulations and reasonable standards of care with their work.
The suit also slams Greenheart, alleging that their employees were not properly trained or supervised and slams Enbridge Gas, alleging that they failed to tell the Greenheart workers that the gas line had not been depressurized.
Travelers is asking the defendants to reimburse them for the money they had paid to their clients.
