TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - On Tuesday, the CEO and president of Insight Health, Dr. Jawad Shah, stopped by the Trumbull County Administration Building in Warren to discuss the future of his hospitals in the county.

Trumbull County leaders, including the commissioners, the mayor, and the director of public safety and service, along with government officials and representatives such as U.S. Rep. David P. Joyce (R-OH), attended the meeting.

Community members and former employees of Trumbull Regional Medical Center (TRMC)and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital were also in attendance, with many of them holding signs to support the hospital's former healthcare workers.

The meeting began with a PowerPoint presentation created by Dr. Shah to provide people with an overview of Insight's history, its list of accomplishments, and involvement with Steward Health Care and the hospitals in Trumbull County.

During the meeting, Shah told the crowd of people that there is hope for TRMC to reopen within several weeks. He noted that Steward Health is no longer associated with TRMC.

"We now have a change of ownership for the Trumbull hospital, and that means we are done with Steward. We have nothing to do with them. They cannot touch our accounts. They have nothing to do with us." Shah said.

Despite his hopes to reopen it, starting with the emergency room, no firm date or plans were discussed during the meeting.

The lack of detail has union leaders skeptical about the company's commitment to its former workers.

"You've failed to provide a warn notice. You failed to a provide reasonable layoff notice. Our contract required two weeks notice. Employees were not given that, they were not paid. Employees are still waiting for vacation leave to be reconciled. There's many issues that are still in dispute." an Ohio Nurses Association leader said to Shah.

Tom Connelly, president of the nurse's union at Trumbull Regional, stated that they want specifics on what Shah's intentions are so the union can effectively negotiate.

"Right now, I have no idea how many nurses are coming back, and with the nursing shortage, you need every blessed one of them that you can get if you want to keep your services going." Connelly told Shah.

Commissioners say they trust and support Dr. Shah's effort to reopen the hospital in Warren.

In the meantime, commissioners, union leaders, and former workers asked Shah to be more transparent about his plans and financial stability moving forward.

"I think the main thing is, and I asked it out there, he has to have enough financing to get it up and running, and once you get it up and running, to keep it running until he can get the cash flow working, and he needs that good working relationship with the nurses and the doctors." Trumbull County Commissioner Tony Bernard said.

It is unclear when Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital will reopen. Still, Shah said they will continue to ensure the electric grid is operating to help power the 911 dispatch center in Howland Township.
