Columbiana man indicted on felony charges in public official's home invasion

LISBON A Columbiana man has been indicted on multiple felony charges, including aggravated burglary and felonious assault, following an alleged break-in at the home of a local state representative in July.
A Columbiana County grand jury filed the indictment this week against Nathan A. Johnson, 29, of Columbiana. The charges stem from a July 15 incident at a residence on Hatcher Road that is home to 7th District Court of Appeals Judge Carol Robb and former state representative Chuck Blasdel.
Johnson faces a total of seven counts. These include a first-degree felony charge of aggravated burglary, a second-degree felony for felonious assault for allegedly causing serious physical harm, and a third-degree felony for robbery, for using or threatening force against Charles Blasdel during a theft attempt.
He also faces charges of burglary, a second-degree felony; attempted burglary, a third-degree felony; disrupting public services, a fourth-degree felony, for allegedly using a device to disrupt operations; and misdemeanor theft, a first-degree misdemeanor, for taking a cellular phone from Charles Blasdel.
According to a complaint filed in Columbiana County Municipal Court, deputies with the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office were sent to the home for a burglary in progress. The complaint alleges Johnson used a wooden chair to break through a glass door to enter the residence. He is also accused of stealing a cellphone from someone in the home who was trying to call 911.
Sheriff Brian McLaughlin stated that the attack was not politically motivated but confirmed that Johnson and Robb-Blasdel had met previously. McLaughlin said Johnson provided a full confession to the crimes.
Johnson remains in custody after his bond was set at $500,000 during an initial municipal court appearance. He is scheduled to appear in the Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas for his arraignment on August 28.
