South Range Local Schools to offer free, reduced-price meals for qualifying families

CANFIELD South Range Local Schools has announced its policy for free and reduced-price meals for qualifying students.
The Ohio State Budget for the 2025-26 school year includes funding to cover the cost of free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch for eligible students. A copy of the policy is available at all district offices for parents to review.
The Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines will be used to determine eligibility. Children from families with incomes at or below the federal guidelines will be eligible for the program.
Application forms are distributed to all homes in a letter to parents. Copies are also available in the principal's office at each school. Those interested in applying should complete this form and return it to the school.
Households that currently receive Special Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or Ohio Works First (OWF) funds for a child must provide the child's name, their case number and the signature of an adult household member.
Households that do not receive SNAP or OWF benefits must provide the names of all household members, the last four digits of the adult signing the application's social security number or state "none" if the adult does not have a social security number, the amount and source of income for each household member (monthly) and the signature of an adult household member.
Households will be notified of the approval or denial of these benefits. Anyone who disagrees with the decision may request a formal appeal hearing or appeal through a written form.
Children in foster care will be eligible for the program regardless of the household's income. Parents of foster children should contact the school for more information.
Additionally, families with children eligible for free or reduced-price school meals may also be eligible for health care coverage through Medicaid or Ohio's Healthy Start & Healthy Families programs.
This coverage includes doctor's visits, immunizations, physicals, prescriptions, dental, vision, mental health, substance abuse and more. You can request an application for these services by calling 1-800-324-8680.
