Juvenile charged in connection with crash that killed MCCTC student in Portage County

Portage County, OH - A juvenile has been charged in connection with a Portage County crash that claimed the life of an MCCTC student.
Portage County Chief Prosecutor Kevin Mayer told 21 News a third-degree felony charge was filed against a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the crash that claimed the life of 16-year-old Brock Jones in April of 2025.
Mayer says the juvenile was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, preventing it from being a second-degree felony. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The crash happened along Scotts Corners Road near Jones Road in Palmyra Township in April of 2025. Troopers said the 17-year-old female was driving with three passengers between the ages of 16 and 18.
The three other teens all suffered minor injuries.
A preliminary investigation found that the 17-year-old drove off the roadway into a ditch, causing the car to hit a utility pole and several small trees before overturning.
Mayer told 21 News a court hearing has been scheduled for the 17-year-old, but it is unclear when this court hearing will happen.
