UPDATED: Six-year-old child 'in good spirits' after being shot in Warren
WARREN A six-year-old child is recovering with her family after being shot.
The child was taken to the hospital after police say she was struck by gunfire in Warren early Wednesday morning.
Mayor Doug Franklin told 21 News he visited the child and she is in "good spirits and good health."
"A lot of relief obviously that this little cute little girl is in good shape," Mayor Franklin said. "She's going to be okay."
According to a press release, police responded to the 2400 block of Montgomery Avenue NW shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday after a caller said her six-year-old sister was shot.
911 audio indicates that the child was shot in the buttocks by unknown suspects outside of the house.
"I will always encourage community corporation with all of our investigations...even more so in this case when a six-year-old is an innocent victim of senseless gun violence. That's a line drawn in the sand."
The child was taken to the hospital and received medical treatment for her gunshot wound.
Police say the Montgomery Avenue home had bullet holes in it, and the rear end of the house was damaged.
There is no word yet on any suspects in this case. If you know any information on this shooting or have a security camera that may have captured footage of it, you're asked to contact Detective Frank Tempesta at 330-841-2651 or ftempesta@warren.org.
