YPD chases swarm of reckless ATVs, dirt bikes through south, west sides

YOUNGSTOWN Dirt bikes and ATVs driving recklessly through Youngstown’s south and west sides on Saturday night eluded pursuing officers. But the Police did track down two of the vehicles they believe were involved.
Police say the riders refused to stop when they turned on their lights and sirens.
A chase began, with the vehicles weaving through the city's south and west sides. According to the police report, the riders drove at "high rates of speed, driving off-road and having no regard for other motorists on the roadway," creating a serious traffic hazard.
Officers say they broke off the chase on Interstate 680 southbound for public safety reasons.
Later, acting on complaints of reckless driving in the area, officers discovered a Honda dirt bike and a Yamaha ATV abandoned near an auto body shop at the intersection of Andrews and Rayen Avenues. The vehicles matched the description of those involved in the pursuit and were reportedly "hot to touch," indicating recent use.
Both vehicles were confiscated by the Police and towed away.
