$1,000 in mini-grants awarded to three Valley teachers to support students with Autism

YOUNGSTOWN The Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley ASMV has awarded three teachers a total of $1,000 in mini-grants to support them in expanding resources and enhancing classroom experiences.
The three teachers were selected from a list of more than 30 applicants across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties.
Third place went to Donna Stewart of the Columbiana County Educational Opportunity School. She received $200, which will be used to create a drink and cookie stand for her students to practice life skills like interacting with older peers, managing money and running a business.
Second place went to Christy Pepperney of South Range High School. She received $300, which will be used to create a calming, hands-on corner that meets students' interests in a sensory-friendly way.
Finally, first place went to Andrea Wasko of Westgate Middle School in East Liverpool. She received $500, which will be used to create a greenhouse meant to teach students with autism independence, life skills and socialization.
The Goulish-Kosco Insurance Agency sponsored these mini-grants.
