Salem City Schools breaks ground on new K-8 building
SALEM - Salem City Schools broke ground on a brand-new K-8 building Wednesday morning.
According to Salem Board of Education President Brittany Maniscalco, the new building will be located on the Whinnery Farm property, which was gifted to the district by the Salem Community Foundation in 1990.
"This land has waited patiently for its purpose, and today, it becomes the foundation of a bright future - one built on learning, growth and opportunity for generations of Salem students," Maniscalco said.
Additionally, Maniscalco said the Salem Community Foundation donated $10 million to the district to make the new building a reality.
"This groundbreaking represents more than just bricks and mortar - it represents our collective investment in the success of every child who will walk through these doors. Together we are shaping the future of Salem," Maniscalco said.
Construction of the building is ongoing, and the building should be ready for use by the 2027-28 school year.
