Alliance bird sanctuary celebrates new location
Sitting back in a wooded area of Butler Rodman Park in Alliance is a sanctuary that allows us humans to get up close to some of the world's largest birds of prey.
"Humans and wildlife are connected, whether we like it or not. That means that every action that we take impacts wildlife, and all wildlife impacts us as well," says Raptor Hallow's General Curator Amy Rich.
Over 100 bird species like Hawks, eagles, owls, and even parrots call Raptor Hallow's new location home. A dedicated space to care for these birds, but also a space to educate the public on conservation efforts to help these species thrive.
"One of our main goals at Raptor Hallow is to get people close enough to care. I always say it's one thing if you're looking at Barred Owl in an enclosure, Aurora is really cool when you're looking at her, but when she is actually able to come out to the path and meet you, and you can get a couple of feet away from her, it's a whole new experience," adds Rich.
Raptor Hallow is currently finishing its expansion, and when they are done, they will not only be able to educate those about birds and conservation, but they will also be able to do those great bird flights we all love to see, throughout the year.
"We are planning on having three amphitheaters; one for small events, one for our full free flight shows that everyone loves, and a separate indoor amphitheater so we can continue to do our free flight shows year-round. Those are things that we strive to do here, to teach people why these animals are important and the proper way to care for them in the wild so they can keep performing the jobs they're supposed to be doing," says Rich.
Raptor Hallow is continuing to work on their new space, but they are open and will host some events coming up soon. All of that information, including information on field trips, is available on their WEBSITE.
